When I was very small, I wanted to travel to the farthest corners of the Earth to work with indigenous peoples. The US government lent me millions of dollars in exchange for my soul so that I may earn some degrees, which in theory, apply to the aforementioned goal. Well it just so happens, that I went to a most remote island in the largest ocean to investigate a potentially fatal bacterial disease. Playing Medicine Man in the jungles of the tropical rain forest islands is every bit as exciting as it sounds. I even found the disease I was looking for. Now, after three years of living in post cards and screen savers, I've returned to Rhode Island. These are the stories of re-infiltrating a small seaside town near the end of the great recession.
